  About Got7 갓세븐

Got7 갓세븐 is a male idol group formed by JYP Entertainment in 2014. The group is composed of seven members who hail from South Korea, Thailand, Hong Kong, and the USA. JB, Jinyoung, Youngjae, and Yugyeom are from South Korea, while Mark is Chinese-American and from Los Angeles, Jackson is from Hong Kong, and BamBam is from Thailand. Prior to their debut as part of Got7, JB and Jinyoung debuted in 2012 as part of the duo JJ Project.

Got7 is the first all-male band from JYP Entertainment in six years, after the debut of 2PM in 2008. Similar to their sunbae group, Got7 gained attention for their performance on stage as it includes "martial arts tricking." On January 20, 2014, the group released their first EP, Got It?, which charted at number two on the Gaon Album Chart. They officially debuted on Mnet's music show "M Countdown" with "Girls Girls Girls." On November 18, 2014, the group released their first studio album, Identify, which was followed by their second studio album Flight Log: Turbulence in 2016. For their work in 2014, Got7 won Best New Artist Group at the Seoul Music Awards and received three nominations at the 29th Golden Disk Awards, winning the New Artist Award. On October 22, 2014, Got7 made their Japanese debut with the release of their first single, "Around the World." In 2016, the group released their first Japanese studio album, Moriagatteyo.

Pre-debut

In 2012, two of the members, JB and Jinyoung (formerly known as Junior), originally debuted as actors in the the drama "Dream High 2" and shorty after as part of the pop duo JJ Project with the single "Bounce," while Mark, Jackson, BamBam, and Yugyeom made their first appearance on the fourth episode of Mnet's reality-survival program "Who is Next: WIN," which aired on September 6, 2013. Youngjae was the last member to join the group with the shortest training period, only being a trainee for about 7 months before being able to debut.

2014

In January 2014, JYP Entertainment officially announced the debut of a new boy band consisting of seven members and a range in nationalities, including three non-Koreans (Jackson from Hong Kong, Mark from the USA, and Bam Bam from Thailand). It was JYP's first boy group in six years since the debut of 2PM in 2008. Got7 is a hip-hop group that specializes in the genre of "martial arts tricking," which combines kicking and turning movements of martial arts skills along with b-boying, similar to their sunbae group 2PM which is known for acrobatic dance styles. The group dropped their first EP Got It? on January 20, 2014. The album shot up to the number one spot on Billboard's World Albums chart and was number two on the Gaon Album Chart. Got7 made their official music program debut on January 16, 2014, through Mnet's "M Countdown," performing their debut single "Girls Girls Girls." Shorty after their debut, the group signed a contract with Japan’s Sony Music Entertainment and launched a showcase in Japan in front of 9,000 fans.

On June 23, Got7 released their second EP, Got Love, with its lead song "A", which was written and produced by J.Y. Park. For their new EP the group stripped away from the high-flying, martial arts and b-boy style choreography that they emphasized in their debut to show a brighter and colorful image. In November 2014, the group released their first full-length album, Identify, as well as the music video for its lead song, "Stop Stop It." Identify topped Gaon's Weekly Album Sales Chart in its first week and "Stop Stop It" peaked at number four on Billboard's World Digital Songs chart. In October, Got7 held their first Japanese tour, Got7 1st Japan Tour 2014, without an official debut in Japan. On October 22; the group made their Japanese debut with Around the World including the hip-hop track "So Lucky" composed and written by 2PM’s Jun.K.

2015

In January, Got7 was awarded the New Artist Award at the 29th Golden Disc Awards and at the 24th Seoul Music Awards. The same month, Got7 starred in their own web drama, "Dream Knight," co-produced by Youku Tudou and JYP Pictures and featuring actress Song Hayoon in the female lead role. The drama tells the story about a girl with pain sharing a dream, love, and friendship with a group of mysterious boys who appear in front of her one day. It gathered close to 13 million hits total. The show received the Best Drama Award, Best Director Award, and Rising Star Award at the K-Web Fest in July.

On June 10, 2015, Got7 released their second Japanese single, "Love Train", which debuted at number 4 on the Oricon Singles Chart. The group released their third EP Just Right on July 13, 2015. The title song peaked at number three on Billboard's World Digital Songs chart, staying in the top three for two consecutive weeks. Got7 released their third Japanese single "Laugh Laugh Laugh" with its B-side "Be My Girl" on September 23. It sold over 35,000 album copies in the first week of its release and made its debut at first place on the Oricon singles chart. The group released their fourth EP, Mad, on September 29 in South Korea along with the music video for lead song, "If You Do." They followed up this release with their very first repackaged album, Mad: Winter Edition, on November 23 with three additional tracks: "Confession Songs," "Everyday," and "Farewell".

Flight Log: Departure debuted at number two on the Billboard Heatseekers album chart and on the Billboard World albums chart. On April 12, Got7 digitally released "Home Run," the second track from Flight Log: Departure. JB participated in writing and composing the song.

In July, the group became models in Thailand for the famous cola brand Est Cola.
