Trespass is the debut album of rookie group Monsta X. Coming out strong with the title track “Trespass,” the group establishes themselves as a force to be reckoned with. Instead of a smooth, pretty pop sound, the song has an aggressive hip-hop flavor produced by Brand New Music’s CEO Rhymer with an addictive synth lead line and EDM elements based on trap music. Jooheon and I.M show off impressive rap flow with self-composed lyrics in “No Exit출구는 없어,” “Steal your heart훔쳐,” and “Interstellar인터스텔라.” These four quick-tempo, rap-heavy hip-hip songs project a powerful, strong image of an energetic and confident new Kpop group that won’t be taken lightly.
The other three songs, “One Love,” “Honestly솔직히 말할까,” and “Blue Moon” are slower R&B style tracks. They show off a romantic, contemplative side to Monsta X and give the album a richer texture.
Producers Rhymer, Yella Diamond, Assbrass, Crybaby, 리시 Lishbeats, and Nago establish a signature sound for Monsta X while showcasing the members’ talents and versatility. Monsta X defies the label of a manufactured made-for-TV Kpop group and displays real skill and personality by contributing lyrics and composition to five out of the seven tracks. From the imaginative and youthful hip-hop, to the interpretation of R&B, with dynamic rhythmic and emotional changes, Monsta X's personality as a group shines through in Trespass.
