  About G-Dragon  지드래곤

G-Dragon 지드래곤 is the leader and main rapper of Big Bang.

G-Dragon was born Kwon Jiyong 권지용 on Thursday, August 18, 1988.  His stage name “G–Dragon” comes from his birth name; "Ji" sounds just like a “G” and "Yong" means “Dragon.”

Like fellow member Taeyang, he was born in the Chinese Year of the Dragon.  He's a Leo.  He's 177 cm or 5'9½" tall.  He and Seungri share the A blood type.

All of the Big Bang members speak Japanese.  G-Dragon and Taeyang speak English.  He was taught Mandarin for a year but forgot it after learning other languages.

Like Daesung, he attended Kyung Hee University, where he majored in post-modern music.  He also studied at Gukje Digital University.  He went to Seoul Arts High School but dropped out to concentrate on Big Bang, then passed his entrance exams in 2008.  Like T.O.P., he's from Seoul.

G-Dragon has an older sister named Kwon Dami.  She owns a fashion boutique, and he helps her by wearing some of the items she sells to promote them.  He's Christian.  He has a Sharpei named Gaho, which he talks about in the song "Knock Out."  He's a childhood friend of T.O.P. and Super Junior's Kangin.

He became interested in rap after hearing the Wu-Tang Clan.  G-Dragon trained at SM for 5 years before quitting because he wasn't sure if music was what he wanted to do.  When he was young, he was part of the kid group Little Roora.  He's been with YG Entertainment since he was 12 years old.  Even during his trainee years, he rapped in songs by artists like Wheesung, Se7en, and Masta Wu.  Before his debut, he became friends with Taeyang.  The two of them almost debuted as a hip-hop duo called GDYB before YG decided to form Big Bang instead.  After Big Bang was finalized, YG gave each of the members a pendant. GD‘s was a star with his favorite type of cap on it.

His official debut was in 2001 on the YG album Hip-Hop Flex.

In 2009 he released Heartbreaker.  Sony Music accused "Heartbreaker" of being too similar to Flo Rida's “Right Round" and accused “Butterfly“ of being too similar to Oasis‘s “She’s Electric."  No charges were pressed.  G-Dragon released another version of “Heartbreaker" featuring Flo Rida.

He and T.O.P. formed a sub-unit called GD&TOP.  G-Dragon produces many of Big Bang's songs and writes some of them, too, like the hit song "Lies."

When the members lived together in their first apartment, G-Dragon held Seungri while sleeping.  G-Dragon is the only member who's not afraid of YG.  They're said to have a father-son relationship.

One of G-Dragon's hobbies is drawing.  He's also into fashion.  He has tattoos on both hands.

In 2011, G-Dragon failed a drug test in Japan and had traces of marijuana in his hair cells. During a party, he'd smoked a cigarette from a fan that tasted a bit off, but he didn't think much of it since he'd never smoked pot before and had also been drinking at the party.  Soon after the news broke he stopped all of his upcoming events and went on a self-reflection period.
