Taeyang 태양 is Big Bang's main dancer and lead vocal.
Taeyang was born Dong Youngbae 동영배 on Wednesday, May 18, 1988, in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi-do.
Like fellow member G-Dragon, he was born in the Chinese Year of the Dragon. Like Daesung, he's a Taurus. At a height of 174 cm or 5'8½", he's Big Bang's shortest member, shorter than T.O.P. by 7 cm. His blood type is AB.
All of the Big Bang members speak Japanese. Taeyang and G-Dragon also speak English.
He attended Daejin University, where he majored in theater and film.
Taeyang plays the piano. As a child, he dreamed of becoming a pianist. He has an older brother named Dong Hyunbae. He's Christian.
When he was in 5th grade, Taeyang was a child actor. When he was 12, he was recruited to play the part of mini Sean in JinuSean’s "A–Yo" music video. Inspired by JinuSean, he auditioned to join YG Entertainment. Starting in 2000, well before debut, he was friends with G-Dragon. They were known as GDYB for "G-Dragon and Youngbae," and YG considered debuting them as a hip-hop duo before deciding to create Big Bang. His stage name, Taeyang, means "sun," and his Japanese stage name is Sol. He trained for six years to be a rapper, like Jinusean, but debuted as a singer. After Big Bang was finalized, YG gave each of the members a pendant. Taeyang's has his initials YB with a crown over it. In 2010, he released his first solo album, Solar, which won him the Best Male Artist of 2010. His first kiss was in the music video for his first solo single, “My Girl." He wrote the lyrics for "Good-bye Baby."
According to YG, the only present Taeyang gave him over the course of ten years, 2000-2010, was a bowl of ramen. Taeyang has his own way of cooking ramen.
During Big Bang's trainee days, Taeyang and G-Dragon ripped their pants more than the other members.
He's a fan of Usher, Boyz II Men, Omarion, and Justin Timberlake. He became interested in music after hearing a song from Brian McKnight.
Taeyang's hobby is playing basketball.
