Day6 데이식스 a rock band from JYP Entertainment. "Day6 is a group that is different from other groups. Since they do band music, more than anything, their talent and skills are important. We've prepared a system where the members start from the very bottom and work their way up. In the end, the goal is to receive recognition as the band Day6 through their talent," a JYP Entertainment representative told TVReport.
The company says that the band name "Day6" was meant to be a metaphor for an entire week. The 6 members represent the first 6 days of the week, while the fans represent the 7th day.
JYP Entertainment initially announced the group as a five-member group called 5LIVE, composed of Sungjin, Jae, Young K, Junhyeok, and Wonpil. The group began promotions as 5LIVE in 2014, appearing on the 4th episode of Mnet's reality-survival program "Who is Next: WIN" and releasing a song titled "Lovely Girl" for the "Pretty Man" OST.
After widespread comparisons to American band Maroon 5, JYPE made changes. In mid-2015, drummer Dowoon was added to the group. In preparation for their debut, Day6 performed a series of promotional concerts at live clubs across Seoul.
Day6's debut mini-album, The Day, was released on September 7, 2015, along with lead single "Congratulations" and its music video. Day6 held their first solo concert, Day6 1st Live Concert, or "D-Day," on November 20 and 21, 2015, at Seoul's Yes24 Live Hall. Within 5 minutes of tickets going on sale the concert sold out.
Im Junhyeok 임준혁 was the keyboardist and a vocalist. In January of 2016, he was involved in a scandal for dating a fan and JYPE received a lot of push back. Fans said they were worried that Junhyeok openly dating a fan would hurt the image of Day6 because they were still rookies and hadn't gotten popular yet. They didn't want Day6's first public recognition to be through a scandal.
On February 27, 2016, JYP Entertainment stated that Junhyeok had left the band due to personal reasons and terminated his contract with the company.
Day6 continued as a five-member band and released their second mini album, Daydream, on March 30. Day6 had their first performance on a music show at "M Countdown" on March 31, six months after their official debut.
